چکیده

The term SSS was coined by Ferrer in 1968 who grouped together all the anatomic etiologies of sinus node disease (SND).1 Table1. We will explore how some patients with underlying SND can have coexisting AF either the effect of SND on atria via various mechanisms or via the underlying disease of the atria. SND is frequently associated with AF, forming the basis of the ”tachycardia-bradycardia syndrome.”2

Intravenous Methylprednisolone, a Possible Cause of the Atrial Fibrillation

We are presenting a case illustrating atrial fibrillation (AF) following the use of methylprednisolone in a patient with pelvic and femur fracture. A 48- year- old man with no significant past medical history, was admitted to the emergency department after injury in a car accident. He suffered a multiple bone fracture with chief complaints of pain and shortness of breath. He was transfer...

Dispersion of atrial refractoriness in patients with sinus node dysfunction.

Abnormal atrial refractoriness was examined as a cause of atrial fibrillation/flutter (AFF) in patients with bradycardia. Refractory periods at three disparate right atrial sites were compared in 17 patients with sinus node dysfunction (SND) and 16 controls. Atrial pacing shortened refractory periods, but failed to decrease dispersion of refractoriness significantly. During sinus rhythm, durati...

Protective effects of simvastatin on atrioventricular node during simulated experimental atrial fibrillation in vitro

Introduction: Recent evidence has indicated that statins can reduce the incidence of both supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias with various mechanisms. The primary goal of the present study was to determine direct protective role of simvastatin in modifying concealed conduction and the zone of concealment in a simulated model of atrial fibrillation (AF) in an isolated atrioventricula...

Genetics and Sinus Node Dysfunction.

Sinus node dysfunction (SND) is commonly encountered in the clinic. The clinical phenotype ranges from asymptomatic sinus bradycardia to complete atrial standstill. In some cases, sinus bradycardia is associated with other myocardial conditions such as congenital abnormalities, myocarditis, dystrophies, cardiomyopathies as well as fibrosis or other structural remodeling of the SA node.1-8 Altho...

Pacing for the Suppression of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation in an 87-year-old Patient

BACKGROUND Sinus node dysfunction, atrioventricular (AV) block and atrial fibrillation (AF) are associated with advanced age. Required therapy commonly includes pacemaker implantation. METHODS We report the course of therapy for an 87-year-old with symptomatic sinus node dysfunction and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation who was intolerant of drug therapy. RESULTS The patient received a pacemak...
